The Canadian Morehead-Cain Scholarship Description The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is offered in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada to students who show promise of exceptional value to the community. It is tenable only at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, N.C.). The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is granted to as many as three students annually from Canada. It is valued at $11,800 US annually. In addition, the scholarship also includes full tuition and fees for up to four years of undergraduate study plus a laptop computer. It includes four summer internships (approximate value $5,500 p.a.) in the areas of outdoor leadership, service, international research and private sector. Added Costs Transportation & incidentals: approximately US$1,500 per year. Taxes: CA federal & provincial + US federal & state: US$1,200-1,500 per year. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must check off the Morehead-Cain box on the Loran Award application to be eligible for this award. Canadian Morehead-Cain Finalists are selected and notified by December 27th, 2008 and must complete an application to UNC-CH before January 15th, 2010. All Morehead-Cain applicants should apply for the earliest possible sitting of the SAT: SAT-1 is required by UNC-CH; SAT-2 is strongly recommended. To maintain a Morehead-Cain scholarship, scholars resident at UNC-CH must: - Live in university residence (year 1 only)
- Have a superior academic record under a full course load
- Remain unmarried and without children
- Continue to show the qualities for which you were selected
